Logline: A blind musician and a deaf sculptor are haunted by a woman only they can see and hear who leads them to a missing girl and into an epic fight against a legacy of racial violence.

Bio: Writer/Director Melody Cooper is this year’s recipient of Stowe Story Labs Tangerine Entertainment Fellowship with THE SOUND OF DARKNESS. The script was also selected for the 2017 NY Stage and Film filmmaking workshop and the inaugural AMC Network Shudder Labs, from which she received a grant and directed a short. Her other work has won several competitions, including Woods Hole Film Festival, placed Third in Slamdance and ranked in top 10% of Nicholl. Melody has signed a deal to direct a feature for Tandem Pictures, and is represented by Circle of Confusion.

Christine Toy Johnson

Logine: LOOK UP by Christine Toy Johnson is a movie musical about a veteran Broadway dancer who fears getting “the hook” for good after being sidelined by an injury at age 42. But she gets unexpected inspiration from a teenaged subway performer who challenges all her assumptions – and discovers that sometimes you just have to look up from your expectations to see who you can be next.

Bio: Christine Toy Johnson is an award-winning writer, actor, director and advocate for inclusion. Her plays and musicals have been developed at such places as the Roundabout Theatre Company, O’Neill Theater Center, Village Theatre, Crossroads Theatre, The Barrow Group and more. A collection of her work was inducted into the Library of Congress Asian Pacific American Performing Arts Collection in 2010. As an actor, she has been featured extensively on Broadway, Off-Broadway, film, and television; recurring guest star on The Americans, Law and Order: SVU and YOU. Executive produced/co-directed award winning documentary, Transcending: The Wat Misaka Story.

Logline: At the turn of the 19th Century, an idealistic military surgeon armed with controversial ideas, fights ignorance and prejudice while striving to revolutionize medical treatments. This insurmountable task is made more impossible by the career-ending secret he holds. He is a woman.

Bio: Christina Hulen is an award-winning Writer/Producer. Her work has won The Writers Lab, funded by Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey; was a Semi-Finalist in the Academy Nicholl Fellowship and is currently a Finalist for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. Previous works have been named as a Finalist in the Final Draft Big Break, Shore Scripts and We Screenplay Diverse Voices competition. She was part of the producing teams for Shelter, which won a GLAAD Media Award for Best Narrative Feature as well as festival favorite, A Marine Story.
